Paradiso and Grachtenfestival present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana
On Saturday, August 10, 2019, Paradiso and Grachtenfestival join forces with a performance of one of the most impressive compositions of the twentieth century: the masterly Carmina Burana, with the famous O Fortuna. The piece will be performed in Orff's original version with three vocalists, choir, a children's choir, two piano's, and percussion.
The Carmina Burana, an adaptation of a collection of songs from the thirteenth century by the German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982), is about the whims of happiness. A compelling, overwhelming and occasionally lovely composition that shakes the listener and leaves him bewildered.
Raoul Steffani (baritone), Artist in Residence of the Grachtenfestival 2019, received a carte blanche to realize his musical dreams with the Carmina Burana at the top of his wish list. Besides Raoul, the piece is performed by soloists Vanessa Waldhart (soprano) and Jeroen de Vaal (tenor), in collaboration with Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam, Percussion Friends and Pianoduo Scholtes & Janssens under the inspiring leadership of conductor Boudewijn Jansen.
