The Geldersekade was dug as a defensive canal in 1425, together with the Kloveniersburgwal and Het Singel. From this canal, ships sailed out to the cities of Gelderland (an Eastern province of the Netherlands). At the end of the 15t century there was a city wall on the even side of the canal. Some of the listed houses on the canal date from the 17th century, as elsewhere in town, but most date from the 18th century. You can find a number of important listed buildings along this broad defensive canal. Your guide Hans Tulleners will invite you to take a look inside one of them.
