MERIÇ ARTAÇ (1990) was born in Istanbul. She started her studies at the Istanbul University State Conservatory as a pianist and after graduating she went to Rotterdam to study composition. In 2015 she graduated cum laude from the Master of Composition. In 2018 her opera Madam Koo (Diamond Factory) premiered in Amsterdam, performed by the AKOM ensemble. Meriç opera Kayra was performed in 2019 at the Callejón del Ruido festival in Mexico at the invitation of Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato (OSUG). Next season (2019-2020), her opera Madam Koo will go on tour.
Her compositions focus on music theater and opera and her interest in multidisciplinary work resulted in collaborations with dance theater and film makers.
Since June 2016, Meriç has been the Artistic Director of the AKOM Ensemble. In addition to the AKOM Ensemble, Meriç also worked as a composer with the ASKO / Schönberg Ensemble and the Doelen Ensemble. The latter ensemble awarded her the Rotterdam School Composition Prize in 2017.
Since September 2018 she has been teaching composition at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
