Christoph Heesch

Christoph Heesch is one of the most promising cellists on today's music scene. He impresses with his soloistic as well as chamber music skills and celebrates great successes nationally as well as internationally. Born in Berlin in 1995, Christoph began playing the cello at the age of six. Currently he studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Jens Peter Maintz. Since 2021 Christoph Heesch has been participating as First Solo Cello in orchestras like the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, SWR Sinfonieorchester and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, next to projects in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras and the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Phil. 

Christoph Heesch has won prizes at various national and international competitions, such as the "Antonio Janigro" competition in Croatia and the international "Witold Lutosławski" competition as well as at the XII. Domenico Gabrielli Competition. He won the "Mieczysław Weinberg" prize and a special prize for the best music mediation at the TONALi15 music competition. At the German Music Competition 2016 in Bonn he received a scholarship after reaching the semifinals and was a semifinalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2017. As prize holder of the prestigious Fanny Mendelssohn Award 2018, he recorded his debut CD „Golden Age - Cello 1925“ with works by Hindemith, Martinu, Ibert and Toch. With this CD Christoph Heesch was awarded with the International Classical Music Award (ICMA) - category Concertos.

Christoph plays a violoncello by Giovanni Grancino from the German Musical Instrument Fund of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
