Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam

Dam 9 1012 JS Amsterdam

NH Collection Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, where you will be enjoying the experience of the Grachtenfestival today, is part of the hotels of the NH Collection chain. NH Collection Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is a five-star hotel located on the Dam Square in Amsterdam. The hotel has 468 rooms, a conference center, restaurants and a jetty for boats at the Oudezijds Voorburgwal.

The original owner of the hotel, Adolph Wilhelm Krasnapolsky, bought the poorly run New Polish Coffee House in 1865 and transformed it into a popular restaurant. He also bought up the adjacent properties and added hotel rooms in 1879/1880. In the same period he had the Winter Garden built in the backyard, a chic conservatory with a domed roof and palm trees, designed by architect G.B. Salm. During that time, the use of glass and iron was still a novelty. The use of electric lighting was also very modern for the time being. The Winter Garden is said to have inspired Gerard Philips to start a light bulb factory.

In honour of the 1883 World's Fair, he expanded the business into a hotel with 125 rooms. In the late 19th century, the hotel was the only one in Amsterdam that had hot water and telephones in every room. After World War II, more properties were purchased and the hotel was expanded. The address was changed from Warmoesstraat 187-205 to the fancier Dam 9-15.

Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is wheelchair accessible and a wheelchair restroom is available.
