The Vespucci Quartet has performed at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam before. We are proud to have the young and talented ensemble back in our program. The members of the Vespucci met at the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest and at the Nederlands Kamerorkest.
They perform regularly in concert halls in the Netherlands and all over the world. But this particular stage must be very special indeed: Fortress Island ‘Pampus’, arguably the most famous location of the Stelling van Amsterdam. Fortress Island Pampus was built between 1887 and 1895. With its long and rich history, dating back to its origin as an important element of the Dutch defence line, through community student housing in the sixties and then Unesco’s listing of World Heritage in 1995, the Fortress Island of Pampus opened its doors in 2011 as the first National Visitors’ Centre of the Stelling van Amsterdam.
The ensemble chose a suitable program: works by Debussy, Röntgen and Stravinsky, all of which were written during the heydays of the Stelling. The boat to ‘Forteiland Pampus’ leaves from the harbour of IJburg. Check on www.grachtenfestival.nl/reisinformatie how to get to Pampus.
