While magazine ‘De Stijl’ was founded in the neutral Netherlands in 1917, the rest of Europe suffered under World War I. The St. George Quintet has brought together four British composers whose life as well as their music was influenced by this war.
The St. George Quintet is an international string ensemble whose repertoire is boundless, performing wellknown composers like Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also less famous works by for instance Arthur Bliss and Frederick Septimus Kelly. The Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club is located in 'Industria’, a society building that was completed in 1916. It was designed by architect Foeke Kuipers, who also took on the task of the furnishing.
