The Olga Vocal Ensemble is a truly international ensemble (with two people from Iceland, two from Holland and a Russian-American). Travelling is in their nature, and they enjoy sharing their travelling stories with others.
This Expedition begins in faraway Iceland, with stories about Vikings and dead sheep in the snow. The gentlemen will lead you to convent buildings in Tibet, on a train voyage through America and on a cargoboat between Cape Town and Athens... They will even make a stop at Lake Titicaca. You will not only hear the sound of a this journey, but also the spiritual journey of Olga. Through te wonderful lyrics by Friedrich Rückert, turned into music by the phenomenal Richard Strauss, the ensemble will search for the meaning of life and during this investigation they will knock on the doors of abstract concepts such as wealth, love, labor and much, much more.
In the end, only one home seems hospitable enough for the tired hiker. En since not every journey is as irreversible as life itself, we have to draw a simple conclusion: Goodbye is usually followed by going home. Hence the Amsterdam folk classic in this program. Olga Vocal Ensemble hopes the audience will enjoy this concert as much as they did and wishes you all a pleasant journey!
