In Jong Talent in the Oude Wester, several laureates of the Princess Christina Competition play in the iconic Westerkerk in Amsterdam. Together with Evan Bogerd, the organist of the Westerkerk, a young talent plays a varied program of solo pieces and pieces played together with the organ.
Today Emma Naegele performs. She started playing the cello when she was 5.5 years old. Although she is not a 'stage animal' by nature and does not like to be the center of attention, she forgets everything around her when she makes music. She is really looking forward to the concert, partly because the location is special. Rembrandt is buried here! Cello & organ is an unusual combination. The two pieces they play together are beautiful. Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch is also called a prayer for cello and orchestra. Bach's Third Gamba Sonata in G minor is written for gamba and a keyboard instrument such as harpsichord or chest organ. The Gamba fell into obscurity and disuse, so the sonata was played on cello. It has the same character and style related to the Brandenburg concertos.
