The beautiful 18th-century organ in the Rode Hoed should not be left untouched during this festival. Laurens de Man talks about his forgotten hero Jehan Alain, plays the organ and also takes place behind the grand piano during this concert. He will be accompanied by Mirna Ackers who plays the flute.
French composer, organist, pianist and draughtsman Jehan Alain (1911-1940) met an untimely end on the battlefield, with which the world lost one of its most promising, creative and colorful composers. His unknown oeuvre consists, besides some choral, piano and chamber works, mainly of organ music, for which he found inspiration in poetry, exotic world music and the spiritual heritage of various traditions. Tonight you will have the opportunity to get to know Alain's universe in a particularly intensive way: in addition to musical highlights, texts will be recited that served as a starting point for his compositions and you will hear fragments from his probing letters. Projections of his very personal, Picasso-like drawing will not be left out this evening.
