In Young Talent at the Old Wester, several laureates of the Princess Christina Competition play in Amsterdam's iconic Westerkerk. Together with Evan Bogerd, the organist of the Westerkerk, a young talent will play a varied program of solo pieces and pieces played together with organ.
Today, the honor belongs to 17-year-old viola player Norea Quirijnen. She grew up in a musical family with a brother who plays piano and a sister who plays viola. In fifth grade she took violin classes and at the Britten Youth String Orchestra and later at the Artez Conservatory she enjoyed playing the violin, yet the deep and warm sound of the viola attracted her more. In 2018 she permanently switched to viola and in 2021 she immediately won the audience prize at the national finals of the Prinses Christina Concours. Currently, Norea is studying with Leonid Kerbel at Musica Munid in Belgium.
