Cellist Alexander Warenberg is our Artist in Residence this summer and for this masterful concert in the Winter Garden of Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky he invites four of his musical friends for a spectacular show: violinists Shin Sihan and Yamen Saadi and violists Dagmar Korbar and Takehiro Konoe. Alexander opens the evening as soloist with Ysaÿe's rarely heard solosonata, in which Ysaÿe brings out the virtuosity and warm, deep sounds of the cello like no other. Then, for each work, an additional musician joins the young cello master: in a duet during Boccherini's virtuoso Sonata in C minor, in a trio during Beethoven's 4th String Trio, and finally in a quartet with Anton Webern's beautiful and moving Langsamer Satz.
The concert will be presented by Ab Nieuwdorp, presenter of The Classics on NPO Radio4 and artistic advisor to the Grachtenfestival.
