Composer and conductor Tijn Wybenga received the Composition Commission from the Grachtenfestival and will be making a new composition especially with the orchestra AM.OK in the coming edition. From the bedrooms and home studios, band members such as Alistair Payne, George Dumitriu, Pau Sola, Pablo Rodriguez and Federico Calcagno have recorded solo improvisations. Wybenga makes a three-part composition of this rich solo music from his own bedroom. Each unique voice will be heard during the concert and at the same time we as a listener will witness how these characteristic voices enter into dialogue for the first time.
“With this dialogue, after months of radio silence, I want to elicit the wonder of listening, reacting and resonating together. Corona seemed to bring us closer for a moment, but I think that's an illusion. I want to say that the miracle lies in listening to each other, giving space to each other and sometimes fighting when necessary. Even if it feels uncomfortable. If we want to change society, we really have to do it ourselves and together. We have been isolated for months and have sought inspiration in ourselves. Now that we can play together again for the first time, I hope that this new communicating music gives us all a new impulse to listen to each voice with respect. And that this gives us all strength and courage to make steadfast progress. We will face many challenges and opportunities, let's face them together! ”
