Using classic instruments combined with 21st century electronics and technology, Perforator pierces traditions in their quest for the new. The duo, consisting of Marlies van Gangelen on oboe and electronics and Akim Moiseenkov on self-built electronic instruments, create playful contemporary music in the unique interactive show "Performania". Using a variety of sensors, such as motion sensors on their bodies and adding ingenious live electronics to objects like remote cars, balloons and plants, Perforator animates the often hidden electronic process live on stage. Perforator respects the past and at the same time enters the future with their innovative performance techniques and their own musical language.

The performance of the Perforator Duo is part of Opus Novum, a new series in which old and new work from Dutch soil is central. The programming consists of five concerts of both classical and jazz music. With the Opus Novum series, the Grachtenfestival not only gives (new) Dutch music a central stage, but gives musicians and ensembles who want to delve into this genre of music an extra chance to present a special program.
