Young, 20 year old violinist Leon Blekh made great impression during the last Oskar Back Concours. It is not without reason Leon ended up in the final with fully conviction. In the beautiful Vondelkerk, Leon will play a various programme in which he will show both his lyrical and virtuoso side.
Beethoven's eight violin Sonata is composed in a very conventional classical style, with an folkloral and pastoral emphasis. The Last Rose of Summer by W.H. Ernst is considered by many to be the most difficult work for violin. This piece includes almost all of the different violin techniques that are treated per variation. Also, the Caprices of Paganini are known for her demonic virtuosity.
Fritz Kreisler, one of the greatest violinists of all times, was known for his sweet tone and expressive phrasing. Recitativo and Scherzo is one of many pieces he had written for solo violin. The work is dedicated to the famous Eugene Ysaÿe, a very close friend of Kreisler's. The Introduction en Rondo Caprriccioso of Saint-Saëns is a truly romantic showpiece for the violin. The virtuoso work is introduced by a sad, melancholic melody, after which the fiery rondo character is used. Saint Saëns wrote the work for the Spanish violin virtuoso Pablo de Sarasate. Therefore, the Spanish influence is clearly heard in this piece. The icing on the cake will be a short performance of Robert Schumann's Romance.
