The 26th edition of the Grachtenfestival will be festively opened by deputy mayor Marjolein Moorman. From 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, various musical elements of the festival will be performed on the Y slope of the NDSM wharf. We are off to a smashing start with the National Youth Orchestra conducted by Wouter Vossen. Soloist Nikola Meeuwsen (piano) is Artist in Residence of the Grachtenfestival 2023 and will play Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto. It is for good reasons that this piano concerto with its majestic sound is called the 'Emperor's Concerto'. In the supporting act you can hear the three nominees for the GrachtenfestivalPrijs of 2023: soprano Sabra El Bahri-Khatri, harpist Joost Willemze and violinist Emma Roijackers. The musician who wins this prize later in the festival will become the Artist in Residence in 2024. The evening will be concluded with to a swinging finish by the Roaring Cats, a hot jazz band. This concert is free, so bring a cushion if you don't want to sit on the floor!
