This summer, live music could be enjoyed again at the Grachtenfestival

What a special edition of the Grachtenfestival, this was! In many ways, the Wonder festival theme was more present than ever thought before. It turned out to be a Wonder that we could organize a festival, a Wonder that a physical audience was allowed and a Wonder that you all responded so enthusiastically that more than half of all tickets were already sold out before the festival start. We look back with great pride on 10 successful days, in which our team of more than 100 festival staff welcomed you to every concert at least 1.5 meters away. Your understanding and patience regarding the new protocols has been fantastic and little is left of the 8 liters of hand gel. Due to the ban on events in public spaces until September 1, we had to decide in June to move the concerts indoors, a decision that worked out even better when the heatwave continued and the instruments had an even harder time than the musicians and public. How much we enjoyed Emmy Storms, our Artist in Residence, whose concerts were a common thread throughout the festival and who took us from Ireland to India with her infectious and virtuoso playing. We look forward to the program that Shin Sihan will develop for next year, as the new Artist in Residence of the Grachtenfestival 2021. Who we also hope to see again is the very talented violinist Adinda van Delft, the 12-year-old winner of the Bunschoten Younger Talent prize. We are thankful to our partners, with whom there would be no festival this year, Both the citycounsil of Amsterdam and the various districts have worked with us to organize concerts throughout the city in enclosed inner gardens of homes and courtyards, exclusively for residents. Thanks to new partners such as Pllek, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Skatecafe and Radion, we were able to offer table concerts that brought the real club vibe back to the festival. The substantive collaboration with Oorkaan and the National Opera Studio brought a new audience and this year the regular visitors were also the first to attend the concerts of the popular series Meesterlijk! and Grachtenfestival Lanceert. We hope to see u back during the Grachtenfestival Weekend on February 13 and 14 2021 and during the 24th edition of the Grachtenfestival from 13 - 22 August 2021. Marie-Luce Bree Director
