Raluca Sabau

Raluca Sabau started playing piano at the age of six in Reghin, her home town in Romania. As a small child, she showed a particular interest in her little red toy piano, so her parents thought they should give her enthusiasm for piano a chance. She had to move away from home at age 14, to continue her musical studies, and yet again at age 18, for her bachelor studies. She graduated the "Gh.Dima Music Academy" in Cluj-Napoca, where she studied piano interpreting with prof.dr. Adriana Bera, and prof.dr. Daniel Goiti.

She also obtained a teaching diploma from the same institution. During her studies Raluca performed twice as a soloist with the Targu-Mures Philharmonic Orchestra, and in numerous piano solo and chamber music recitals.
After graduation she got a teaching position in piano, and piano accompaniment at the Fine Arts and Music School in Targu-Mures, where she was teaching for four years. She described her teaching experience as being uplifting, "having to explain things you work with on a regular basis to children that don't know was a serious challenge. I could finally see the other side of the whole teaching experience, and the very complex process of working to become a professional musician".

Meanwhile she kept attending masterclasses, where she had the opportunity to meet and work with Frank van de Laar, her current piano teacher. Raluca then decided to move to The Netherlands, where she will complete her master degree in June this year, at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem.
Since September 2012 she is the pianist accompanist of Jeroen Reuling's cello class at ArtEZ Conservatory in Arnhem. Trying to enrich her development as a performer, Raluca is currently working on a research about Body language on stage, which focuses on other aspects that have an impact on the audience, next to the playing itself. This topic points out well her motivation to go further as a musician. After graduation Raluca would like to keep playing as much as possible, as a soloist with an orchestra, or giving solo recitals.
Also, she would like very much to have more opportunities to play chamber music, which she describes to be an "old love". As for the teaching part, Raluca would like to continue the collaboration with ArtEZ as the accompanist of the cello class.
