Pieter de Koe (1994) is a driven chamber music musician, co-founder of the
promising Animato Quartet, initiator of own productions and various cross-arts
collaborations.
Pieter is active throughout Europe as a cellist and has played chamber music concerts in Casa
da Música in Portugal, Sala São Paulo in Brazil, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Doelen
Rotterdam. He was invited to festivals like the Davos festival in Switzerland, the Gent Festival in
Belgium, "Festival International de Inverno de Campos do Jordão" in Brazil, Mahler Academy
Italy and the Amsterdam Canal Festival in the Netherlands. Pieter also plays in various
cross-arts projects with ISH, Yopera, Troupe courage, and own production Wonder.
He studied at the Sweelinck Academy with Monique Bartels and won prizes at a young age
at various competitions. He received his bachelor cum laude at the Royal
Conservatory The Hague with Michel Strauss and Jan Ype Nota. Pieter is now studying at the
master's degree from the Musikhochschule Freiburg with Jean-Guihen Queyras. He also worked
with among others Anner Bijlsma, Gary Hoffman, Alfred Brendel, Reinbert de Leeuw, Arto Noras,
David Dolan and Johannes Meissl.
With the Animato Quartet, Pieter is a prospective member of the European Chamber Music Academy. She
received the Kersjes quartet stipendium and follow lessons with Eberhard Feltz via the Dutch
String Quartet Academy.
Pieter plays a beautiful Dutch Johannes Theodorus Cuypers cello (1775-1780), him
made available by the National Musical Instruments Fund.
