Laura de Armas

Laura de Armas is a cellist born in the Canary Islands in 1996 and currently lives in the Netherlands. She graduated from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias, having done part of her studies at the Royal Welsh College with Richard May and Nikki Thomas. She finished her masters’ degree at Prins Claus Conservatorium in March 2022, where she studied in Jan-Ype Nota's class. For the academic year 2019/2020, Laura received the Scolarship FMG Posgrado en Música. Currently she is Michel Strauss’ student.

She has expanded her training by having masterclasses with teachers such as Robert Cohen, Jacob Spahn, Robert deMaine, Paul Watkins, and Stefan Popov. Other musical engagements include performances in GrachtenFestival ConservatoriumConcours as a finalist, Peter de Grote Festival 2021 with Paul Komen and 2022 with Adamo String Quartet, Podium from Radio4, and Sounds of Music Festival 2020. In the orchestral music world, she has played with Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Noord Nederlands Orkest, and Cadaqués Symphony Orchestra. She has also been part of youth orchestras, being first cello at the Youth Orchestra of the Canary Islands (JOCAN), Jong Kamerorkest Noorden, and invited tutti at Romanian Youth Orchestra. She has played in halls such as Shanghai Concert Hall, De Oosterpoort and the Royal Albert Hall. Laura plays a French cello from the early 20th century, kindly loaned by the ‘Prechal’ foundation.
