José Miguel Esandi is guest conductor at Opera Graz, in Austria, since the 2012-2013 season. In there he has conducted the premieres of L’elisir d’amore, and Liebe einer Königin (a ballet with symphonic selections by Rachmaninov), performances of Manon Lescaut, and a revival of La bohème, as well as concert programs. Parallel to this, he has had his debut in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2012, conducting La rondine at the Teatro São Carlos, followed by performances of Sacre du printemps and La valse with the National Ballet Company of Portugal in 2013. In December of 2013, he debuts with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, in Norway, conducting Messiah.
In the 2014/2015 season he will conduct the revival of Die Zauberflöte, as well as the premiere of Malambo! a ballet spectacle with music by Piazzolla and Ginastera, both at Opera Graz; and he will lead a production of Nutcracker with the National Ballet Company of Portugal, in Lisbon.
In recent years, his opera appearances include La bohème at La Monnaie, Brussels, Belgium, Rigoletto, Otello and Carmen at the Opéra National de Lorraine, Nancy, France and La bohème at the Los Angeles Opera, USA.
