Jelmer de Moed


Jelmer de Moed is a young ambitious clarinetist. His interest in music brings him from the classical repertoire to contemporary improvisation in which he deepens and expands.

He started taking clarinet lessons at the age of 8, followed a preparatory course at ArtEZ with Corien Hoepman, and now studies with Arno Piters and Hans Colbers at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He also attends masterclasses and courses in Europe where he took lessons with Charles Neidich, Yehuda Gilad, Björn Nymann, Jörg Widmann, Sabine Meyer, Wenzel Fuchs, Johannes Peitz and Martin Spangenberg.

In addition to his studies, Jelmer gives concerts in the Netherlands and abroad, in ensembles and as a soloist. He likes to play with the Animato quartet, forms an active duo with Rik Kuppen and plays with many good friends such as Pieter de Koe, Anne Brackman, Shin Sihan and Laura Lunansky. Together with them, he took lessons with Vera Beths, Bram van Sambeek and Dmitri Ferschtman.

Jelmer played solo in the Mozart clarinet concerto with l'orchestra Symfonica de Michoaocan on tour through Mexico, the Rhapsody of Debussy with the Royal Military Chapel in Tivoli Vredenburg, and the clarinet concerts of Weber and Mozart with the WSKOV Symphony orchestra.

In addition to the modernist repertoire, Jelmer is also an active improviser. With Pieter de Koe, Geerte de Koe, Uri Eugenio and Tijn Wybenga he made the improvisation ballet 'Wonder' and in 2013 he played with singer-songwriter ON EVA during the finals of 'the Grand Prix of Amsterdam' in the big room of Paradiso.

In 2014, Jelmer won the first prize at the Prinses Christina competition East (+ audience prize, soloist prize, laureate prize) and a second prize in the National final (+ press prize). In addition, he was invited by Princess Christina herself to perform at the CIMA music festival, Monte Argentario, Italy. In 2016 he won the auditions for the CYM track, this foundation will support Jelmer financially and with advice for two years.

Jelmer gained experience as the first clarinetist in the JON (Youth Orchestra Netherlands), the Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, and in the NJO (National Youth Orchestra). Under the Baton of conductors such as Jurjen Hempel and Anthony Hermus, he gave concerts in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Doelen Rotterdam and Konzerthaus Berlin, among others.
