Iteke Wijbenga

Iteke Wijbenga is active as a viola player in chamber music, in orchestras and as a soloist. She collaborated with renowned musicians such as Severin von Eckardstein, Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) and Rick Stotijn and played at various festivals such as Aurora Chamber Music Festival (Sweden), the Peter the Great Festival, the International Chamber Music Festival Schiermonnikoog, Grachtenfestival and the Wonderfeel Festival . During the last festival she was soloist in the Double Concerto of Max Bruch together with Lars Wouters of the Oudenweijer. She is a member of the Helios Trio and the Intercontinental Ensemble. With this and other ensembles, she regularly performs in venues such as the Concertgebouw and the Muziekgebouw aan 't Ij. She has participated in festivals such as the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam and the Harmos Festival (Portugal) and has been a guest at NPO Radio 4 and NPO2 at Podium Witteman on several occasions. Since 2016 she is also a member of the Residentie Orkest. She is also a guest leader at the Kölner Chamber Orchestra and she replaces orchestras such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. In addition to modern viola, she also likes to play in an authentic (baroque) setting. As a teacher she assists Sven Arne Tepl at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Iteke completed her master viola "cum laude" at the Conservatory of Amsterdam as a student of Sven Arne Tepl. She also studied baroque viola with Shunske Sato and Sayuri Yamagata. Before that she studied violin with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho at the Prince Claus Conservatory, first in the Young Talent Class, later in the Bachelor's degree. At a young age, she won prizes at the Princess Christina Competition and the Stift International Music Festival and performed as a soloist with youth orchestras. When she discovered her love for the viola, she continued her studies with Gisella Bergman, Esther van Stralen and Sven Arne Tepl. She received masterclasses from, among others, Tabea Zimmermann, Nobuko Imai, Tatjana Masurenko, Thomas Riebl and Anner Bijlsma.

With great thanks to, among others, Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument, she owns a viola from Jürgen Manthey, on which she plays with much love. She plays with a J.S. Finkel bow, loaned to her by the National Musical Instrument Fund.
