Floris Kappeyne (1955) initially started his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as a jazz pianist. During his studies, he came in contact with the classical department and met David Kuyken and Frank Peters, at whom he started to play classical piano. In 2020, Floris Kappeyne will finish this studies.
In the professional field, Floris mainly works as a composer and pianist, focused on improvising. He is strongly influenced by western classical music. With his "Floris Kappeyne Trio" (Tijs Klaassen - bas and Wouter Kühne - drums), he released two cd's with his own music: "Interchange" (2017) and "Synesthesia" (2019). In this last project, Floris experimented with interdisciplinarity: composed acoustic music, classical pholyphonic vocals and electronical music came together with visual projections by Jaromir Mulders and Tarik Barri.
In addition, Floris works as a side man for several other projects, such as the "Thijs Klaassen Kwintet" and "Anti-Panopticon", led by Lennert Baerts.
