Dominique Vleeshouwers

Winner of the first prize, the press prize and the audience award of the TROMP international percussion competition 2014, Dominique Vleeshouwers is a Dutch solo percussionist known for his virtuosic technique and versatility.

Dominique graduated cum laude in 2013 with project titled ‘Child Soldier’ and was awarded the AHK art prize for the most outstanding exam of all the art schools in Amsterdam. As a soloist he has performed with the Asko||Schönberg ensemble, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic Orchestra, and Ural Philharmonic Orchestra (Russia) among others. Dominique also enjoys playing chamber music and has collaborated with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. With Ivo Janssen and the Mallet Collective Amsterdam, Dominique has performed and recorded live Simeon Ten Holt’s quintessential Canto Ostinato in a sold-out main hall of The Concertgebouw Amsterdam. In 2013 Dominique was invited to perform a minimal live set with DJ Patrice Bäumel during the Amsterdam Dance Event.

For his solo recital in The Concertgebouw in 2016 Dominique launched the Playground project, creating symphonic techno by combining electronic and acoustic music in a new and imaginative way. With the generous support from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK), Dominique is researching and building new acoustic, digital and analog instruments to expand the sound world of solo percussion.

Upcoming engagements include developing the concept for the 2018 TROMP Opening Concert and performing with Martin Grubinger as lead soloists, performing concertos with the Tokyo Sinfonietta, South Netherlands Philharmonic, and playing two recitals in The Concertgebouw Amsterdam.

Next to his passion for both classical percussion and drums from all over the world, Dominique co-founded Combined Creatives where he and his team gather to develop innovative and interdisciplinary concepts for the arts.

Passionate about working and inspiring young percussionists, Dominique was guest professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold and coached in the team of Percussion Friends at the Sweelinck Academy from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He has been invited to give masterclasses internationally in the conservatories of Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Moscow, Tokyo amongst others. Dominique is an Adams artist, and his percussion instruments are supported by the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund and ‘Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument’.
