The Zemtsov Viola Quartet was founded in 2010 by four members of a very special viola family: father, mother, daughter and uncle Zemtsov. All four of them have studies with the same professor at the Conservatorium Maastricht - the grand Russian viola virtuoso Michael Kuger. All of the members develope a brilliant professional career, Mikhail is professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the conservatory of Utrecht, Julia teaches at the conservatory of Rotterdam, Arnhem/Zwolle and Maastricht, Alexander works at the conservatory of Lausanne in Swiss and the Hochschule of Keulen, Germany and Dana has an international career as a soloist and has an exclusive settlement with Channel Classics Records. As from 2017, son Daniil replaces his father Alexander in the quartet. Daniil currently studies at the Conservatorium Maastricht, also under the watchful eye of Michael Kugel. The quartet's debute took place during the 2010 Grachtenfestival.

Zemtsov Quartet has played several concerts in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Estonia and Italy and organizes their own Zemtsov Viola Masterclass twice a year. The quartet has performed repeatedly on the radio (Radio 4, Klara, "Klassika Radio", Estonia, Radio Baleares in Spain) and on television (Vrije Geluiden). In 2014, their debute album was released with 'NAVIS' label and were highly praised in the magazine "Luister".

In 2016 the Quartet performed an arrangement of Harold in Italy by H. Berlioz with the National Orchestra of Estonia, conducted by Leif Segerstam. In November 2018, the quartet performed at the International Viola Congress in Rotterdam, where, despite its own repertoire, the winning compositions of the Viola Quartet Composition Competition were performed.
