Since 2013, the musicians of the Volkmann Trio (Valentina Toth, piano, Coraline Groen, violin, Jobine Siekman, cello) have shared their love for the well-known and unknown piano trio repertoire and have performed at concert locations throughout the Netherlands. Each year they put together several interesting programs which are relevant at that time. For example, they made programs around 400 years of Rembrandt, 75 years of liberation, their namesake Robert Volkmann and "Les Six". The trio finds it interesting to present the more unknown, sometimes Dutch or modern (er) counterparts in addition to the acclaimed piano trios.

Valentina, Coraline and Jobine got to know each other at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and took lessons with Richard Lester, David Dolan, Ellen Corver, Vera Beths, Michel Strauss, Mark Messenger, Melissa Phelps, the Atos trio, Peter Brunt, etc. David Kuyken and during the European Chamber Music Academy with Johannes Meissl, Petr Prause, Dirk Mommertz and others. In 2015, the piano trio was awarded the Chamber Music Prize from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In the same year they were invited to give a concert in the National Philharmonic of Vilnius at the invitation of the Dutch Embassy in Lithuania, and in 2016 they played for the Dutch Embassy in Brussels. They made their debut in the Concertgebouw in October 2017. After that they played not only throughout the Netherlands, but also at various locations in England and Italy.

The name Volkmanntrio comes from Robert Volkmann (1815-1883), one of the more unknown composers for whom the trio wants to champion.
