Ensemble

During a tour of the Frysk Fanfare Orchestra in America in 2009, 4 saxophonists decided that they wanted more than just playing in an orchestra and formed the saxophone quartet "SAKS" (short but powerful and a reference to the Frisian background of the musicians). Over the years, there have been a number of changes in the occupation and since 2015, SAKS has been working on the current composition. It has become a very professional, colorful and versatile quartet.

In recent years, the quartet has given concerts at home and abroad, collaborated with various orchestras, played at festivals and provided music at receptions. It has also contributed to various recordings.

At the end of 2018, SAKS joined the Noorderwind Muziekproducties foundation. This foundation consists of various ensembles and musicians from the Northern Netherlands who develop and perform special music projects and productions in various compositions. Noorderwind Music Productions is characterized by playing classical music in special settings with crossovers between other music streams and art disciplines. She strives to make music productions visible to a wide audience in the region.

Since “SAKS meets Talent” (2013), an initiative of Keunstwurk in the context of Fulkaan, SAKS also organizes a SAKS day almost every year. During such a day saxophonists of all ages and all levels are coached in different ensembles by members of SAKS and together with SAKS they give a final presentation to the public. All this to let every saxophonist experience how fun it is to play together in small and large ensembles.

SAKS consists of 4 professional musicians:

MIRIAM STOFFELSMA - Soprano Saxophone
JILDOU RENEMA - Alto saxophone
SIETSKE TRINKS - Tenor saxophone
MARRICH NOORDMANS - Baritone saxophone
