Aan het einde van zijn leven schilderde de Franse impressionist Claude Monet een aantal werken die samen de Nymphéas-serie (waterlelies) genoemd worden. De voorliefde voor impressionistische Franse muziek die de trombonisten van het Nymphéas Trombone Quartet delen zorgt ervoor dat zij deze naam met trots dragen.
Het kwartet bestaat uit Niels Jacobs, Wilco Kamminga, Arjan Linker en Tim Ouwejan, die elkaar in 2015 ontmoetten. Later studeerden de vier gelijktijdig aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam in de gerenommeerde tromboneklas van Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager en Bart van Lier. Vanaf 2018 vormen de vier het Nymphéas Trombone Quartet.
Het kwartet speelde onder andere op het Prinsengrachtconcert, in de kleine zaal van het Concertgebouw, op het Grachtenfestival en op nationale televisie bij Podium Witteman en het Lenteconcert van AVROTROS. Naast de vele optredens heeft het kwartet ook een cd opgenomen met Frans impressionistisch werk en Nederlandse nieuwe muziek met electronics: Orange, Blue and Pink. De leden uit het trombonekwartet bekleden vaste posities in het Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, het Balletorkest en het Sinfonieorchester Basel (Academie). Daarnaast zijn ze regelmatig actief in onder meer het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, en het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble en ondernemen onafhankelijk van elkaar projecten met eigen ensembles en initiatieven zoals het Nachtlicht Ensemble en het Sweelinck Koperkwintet.
Towards the end of his life, the French impressionist Claude Monet painted a number of works collectively known as the Nymphéas series (water lilies). The predilection for impressionistic French music shared by the trombonists of the Nymphéas Trombone Quartet ensures that they carry this name with pride.
