Mafalda is een Portugese freelance saxofoniste die graag met andere artiesten creëert. In 2022 studeerde ze cum laude af in klassieke saxofoon en kamermuziek aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam en won ze de Dutch Classical Talent Award als lid van het Maat Saxophone Quartet. Door het ontwikkelen van projecten met nieuwe muziek en innovatieve concertopstellingen wil Mafalda bijdragen aan de toekomst van haar instrument en de uitvoering van klassieke muziek.
Marta Mata is een jonge Portugese pianiste die sinds 2020 studeert aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam onder leiding van professor Frank van de Laar. Gelijktijdig met haar solopianopraktijk houdt zij zich bezig met vele kamermuziekprojecten, waarbij zij onder andere samenwerkt met vele hedendaagse componisten en werken in première brengt. In 2021 ontving ze de beurs Formação em Artes no Estrangeiro van de Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, die haar helpt haar huidige masterstudie voort te zetten.
Hun duo ontstond in 2021 in Amsterdam door de passie van beide musici voor kamermuziek. Hun wens om de mogelijkheden binnen het saxofoon en piano duo bloot te leggen inspireerde het duo om reeds bekende muziekwerken te interpreteren door middel van arrangementen, maar ook om werken van jonge getalenteerde componisten in opdracht te geven en zo een fris en emotioneel muzikaal pad naar het publiek te brengen.

Marta Mata is a young Portuguese pianist who has been studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam since 2020 under the direction of Professor Frank van de Laar. Simultaneously with her solo piano practice, she is involved in many chamber music projects, in which she collaborates with many contemporary composers and premieres works. In 2021, she received the Formação em Artes no Estrangeiro scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which helps her to continue her current master's studies.
Their duo was created in Amsterdam in 2021 through the passion of both musicians for chamber music. Their desire to uncover the possibilities within the saxophone and piano duo inspired the duo to interpret already well-known musical works through arrangements, but also to commission works from young talented composers, creating a fresh and emotional musical path to the to bring to the public.
