The Flemish actress and singer Evi De Jean performs a unique programme of politically inspired songs by Blacher from the period 1946-1948, some of which have never been sung before. She is skillfully accompanied by Arthur Rusanovsky (violin) and Jeroen Sarphati (piano). Some of the songs being world premières, KameraOperProject received special permission from Blacher's widow and the Berlin Academy of the Arts to perform these works.
In the years just after the war, Blacher worked for Ernst Bush and Kate Kühl, famous interpreters of the Berlin cabaret songs. For this concert, manuscripts from the archives have been especially arranged. The songs reveal an intense portrait of a woman in Berlin in 1946, who tries to build a new life, without a husband to support her and with the threat of Russian soldiers hanging over her. in the background. The music is accompanied by unique documentary footage in colour, depicting a devastated city.
