Last March, Seldom Sene received the Prize for Interpretation at the 17th International Chamber Music Competition in Ilzach (France). It was a unanimous decision by the jury, brought about by the expressivity and the power of the recorder players in their rendition of contemporary chamber music. The members of the jury also praised the apparent ease and beauty with which Seldom Sene played the early repertory by heart.
Today, Seldom Sene will play a truly varied programme. A fabulous Suite by Matthew Locke is combined with almost all major instrumental forms of chamber music through the ages: sonata, fugue, fantasia, canzona and concerto. Furthermore, two very special contemporary works are performed in a theatrical staging.
Just as the suite is a collection of dances, this programme is a collection of different forms of chamber music. Seldom Sene lines up a complete array of instruments, from the soprano recorder to the two metres long contrabass recorder.
