The grand final of the Grachtenfestival 2019 will not pass quietly. Especially for the Grachtenfestival, marimba player, Tatiana Koleva has put together a program with members of the Youth Percussion Pool with highlights from various percussion compositions; Percussion Extravaganza. With music from Africa, Asia, North America, and the Balkans, a musical journey around the world will be made, with Koleva's own arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story as the spectacular ending.
The Youth Percussion Pool was founded in 2009 and consists of young professional students who are selected for their musicality, stage presentation and above all, their ability to put on an attractive and breathtaking show, with composed music, improvisation, theatrical elements and an enormous amount of humor. The Pole was founded by the marimba/percussion artist Tatiana Koleva who is internationally known as a solo and ensemble artist, teacher and program maker.
Tatiana Koleva, born in Varna, Bulgaria, knows like no other how to bring new music in an intriguing and passionate way and thereby make it accessible to a wide audience. Named by the press as "one of the best marimba players in the world", she has made a major contribution to making the marimba and other percussion instruments known as fully-fledged solo instruments. She played at a large number of renowned international music festivals and stages and gave master classes in many European countries, the United States, Japan, Canada, Jordan, Brazil, and Mexico. Tatiana works together with renowned composers. Around 100 pieces have been written for her solo and ensemble projects.
