As a result of the spring 2023 ‘call for sketches’, Juho Myllylä performs a daring solo recital of new works, with each composer and work representing a unique aesthetic and unique approach to the recorder family. Four new compositions, specially composed for him, will be premiered. In addition to the new compositions, the program features a number of eclectic and spherical works for recorders and electronics, written for and by Juho.
The successful collaboration between the Grachtenfestival, November Music, and Gaudeamus has existed for several years and, in addition to newly written compositions, also ensures a fantastic collaboration between composers and musicians.
Juho Myllylä is a recorder player, guitarist, and singer/songwriter. He studied the recorder at the Conservatory in Amsterdam with Jorge Isaac, graduated with a master’s degree in 2020, and he works with The Royal Wind Music and Ensemble Gamut! Juho feels passionate about earlier repertoire – medieval and renaissance music, yet is especially interested in the recorder's countless possibilities in contemporary and new music and working with composers, with a steadily growing number of new works written for and premiered by him. Jazz, fusion, rock, prog, experimental, electro-acoustic, live electronic, soundtrack, and film music are integral part of his musical landscape. Here, too, in his hands, the possibilities of the recorder appear endless. Juho is also active as a rock musician; he is the guitarist-singer-songwriter for the progressive alternative rock band Burntfield.
