NAJWA in Arabic means “straight from the heart”, as in: the passionate hearts of this group of talented musicians. Listen to their own compositions, a.o. by musical leader Nizar Rohana, who, in a subtle way, sought connection with the Grachtenfestival theme 'Dichter bij de muziek'. Every composition represents a personal queeste by the young composers, expressed in their musical language. Compositions are more than a rhapsodie of styles: they represent a new sound, a sound from their own tradition, where the heart opens up for the unheard and the unknown, for the creation of a new sound.
As it happens, there is a perfect balance between Arabian and Occidental music: half of these musicians grew up wihtin the Syrian and Arab musical culture, the other half with Occidental music. For each concert, as well as for the concert at the Grachtenfestival, NAJWA creates new musical challenges and experience.
Dit concert wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door Amnesty International.
