For his performance in Meesterlijk! baritone Raoul Steffani will bring along two top musicians. He will perform as usual with pianist Gerold Huber, a most remarkable song recital accompanist, and explore Scandinavian territory with 'Sechs Lieder opus 48' by Norvegian composer Edvard Grieg. These six songs with originally German lyrics meant Griegs definite breakthrough outside Northern Europe as a song composer. “Zur Rosenzeit” and “Ein Traum” both became a hit. Also a selection of the composer Jean Sibelius from Finland, who most of his life worked with text in Swedish language. Unlke his European precedessors, Sibelius did not write miniatures – he preferred the grand approach in his songs. With long, expressive strokes he outlined an atmosphere full of fantasy and dreams and gave sound and voice to the amazing Swedish landscape.
As a special guest star violinist Lisa Jacobs performs Louis Spohrs – forgotten, but undeservedly so – 'Sechs Lieder op. 54'. A truly unique cyclus for song, violin and piano. Forty years after Schubert also Spohr dared to work with the famous poem 'Erlkönig' by Goethe, and he composed his own version in which the violin represents the seductive and unearthly voice of the Erlkönig.
