In the dark of the night... American composer William Bolcom translates the saxophone tune into a seductive song about a lady, a snarling wild animal and the shrieking of a monster. This is the sound of Lilith, the gorgeous woman whose heart has been broken many times and who will return as an evil spirit looking for revenge. Lilith is the ancient archetype of the femme fatale. The supernatural femme fatale returns to earth as a human being, as Lulu.
God created her for evil and for havoc,
To snare us and seduce us, to infect us
And to destroy us, never leaving finger prints
Thus Lulu is called on stage in Alban Berg’s last opera of the same name. She is presented as a human snake and innocent murdress, shaped by modern psychology and civilisation, on her path to self destruction. The saxophone imitates her song.
The works of Bolcom and Berg are united with music by Nadir Vaddena and the young Dutch composer Sam David Wamper. Duo Mader & Papandreopoulos (saxophone and piano) will take you along on a daring and dark journey full of unexpected sound.
