‘Le docteur miracle’ is about a decent, somewhat rigid family where each member has a steady place. The father is mayor of a prosperous town, he dislikes spongers and wants everything to be under control. The mother used to like him a lot, but her feelings have faded over the years. The dog is cute and sweet, the daughter well adjusted and she is doing well at school, yet she shows the first signs of adolescent rebellion and hormonal whims.
This rather peaceful setting is disrupted by a young man who disguises successively as a professional demonstrator, a supernatural healer of all sorts, and as a personal assistant to the mayor. He seeks contact with the daughter. In every part he plays, he is the only one who seems to know exactly what he wants.
‘Le docteur miracle’ is a one act play by Georges Bizet in the beautiful garden of Museum van Loon.
