The composers Grieg and Borodin both wrote a work for their "Schatten van Vrouwen". Saxophone quartet SAKS will perform these works Hochzeittag auf Troldhaugen and Notturno in an arrangement for saxophone quartet. Hochzeittag auf Troldhaugen wrote Grieg in memory of his 25-year wedding anniversary with his wife Nina. The cheerfulness of the party is reflected in the play and the quiet middle part reflects the past 25 years. It has become one of his best-known works and has been included in his Lyric Pieces collection for solo piano. Notturno is perhaps the most appreciated piece of music that Borodin has ever written due to the compelling and emotional theme. This third movement from his Second String Quartet is often seen as a love duet between Borodin and his wife. SAKS will conclude with a musical "treasure of a woman". Quatuor de Saxophones is written by the female composer and pianist Ida Gotkovsky. Born in France, she is seen as the ambassador of French culture. Her works are performed all over the world.
SAKS
During a tour of the Frysk Fanfare Orchestra in America in 2009, 4 saxophonists decided they wanted more than just playing in an orchestra and formed the saxophone quartet "SAKS" (short but powerful and a reference to the Frisian background of the musicians). Over the years, there have been a number of changes in the occupation and since 2015, SAKS has been working on the current composition. It has become a very professional, colorful and versatile quartet.
The church route
The Kerkjesroute is a wonderful cycling tour through Amsterdam Noord. Along the way you will stop at three picturesque churches for short concerts by SAKS (saxophone quartet), cellist Liesbeth Bosboom and the Willem Romers Trio. The starting point is the Nieuwendammerkerk. There you will receive the route and the entire program of the morning and afternoon. Take your own bike with you!
