The Delta Piano Trio was founded in 2013 in Salzburg (Austria) by three young Dutch musicians: violinist Gerard Spronk, cellist Irene Enzlin and pianist Vera Kooper. Considered by colleagues as one of the most promising young ensembles, the trio made a name for itself with its pure sound, uncompromising musicality, energy and the willingness to dive deeper into the music than is obligated. For this concert, the Delta Piano Trio plays compositions by Lera Auerbach and Felix Mendelssohn.
The trio has a special relationship with composer Lera Auerbach. When the members of the trio searched for new contemporary repertoire on YouTube, they came across the music of Lera Auerbach and instantly fell in love. Since then, they play her work all over the world, collaborated with Lera Auerbach and recorded a CD with her piano trio. Her second piano trio The mirror with three faces is an exciting, enigmatic and almost theatrical work. Lera describes it as a theater piece in which the three individuals of the trio have their own separate stories, yet form part of a single identity. Her musical language evokes memories of Shostakovich and Schnittke, but at the same time has an unmistakably an identity on its own.
The first piano trio by Felix Mendelssohn is perhaps one of the most played and loved piano trios there is and that is not surprising. The work combines lyricism, passion, drama and brilliant virtuosity. Timeless music that drags the listener into a story and is exciting from the first to the last note.
