The violinist Eva Traa is taking her master’s exams at the Amsterdam Conservatorium this year, for which she is being coached by various leading teachers. The cornerstones of the examination are Vivaldi and Schönberg, in both cases with a programme of music based on poetry. Vivaldi’s L’Estate (Summer) is about the daytime, and Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht is about the night. This is an interesting programme, particularly because of the impact of the poem that Schönberg based his piece on; at the time, everyone was utterly entranced by it. The Posthoornkerk has a mysterious atmosphere that makes it the perfect location for this programme.
