Neighbourhood concert: Firgun Ensemble

The Firgun Ensemble is a chamber music group consisting of Emile Souvagie (clarinet), Ludovic Bataillie (violin), Ciska Vandelanotte (violin), Lotte Stuyck (viola) and Karin Broeckhove Ibarra (cello). The ensemble originated in the spring of 2017 from students, but especially friends from the royal conservatories of Antwerp and Brussels. They specialize in the repertoire for clarinet and string quartet. They are intensively coached by France Springuel and Tony Nys (Malibran Quartet), and have already taken lessons with Etienne Siebens, Benjamin Dieltjens, Peter Merckx (HERMESensemble), Erik Schumann (Schumann Quartet), Razvan Popovici (Ensemble Raro), Diana Ketler (Ensemble) Raro), Wouter Vossen (Storioni Trio), Natalie Lefèvre (Oxalys) and Guy Danel (Malibran Quartet).

In January 2018 they won the first prize of the Storioni Willem Twee Concours, as well as the audience prize. In recognition of this, the Firgun Ensemble was invited by NPO Radio 4 to make their radio debut from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In the summer of 2018 they were guests at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, at the NJO Muziekzomer and the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam.

Firgun is an untranslatable word from Hebrew and means as much as: "Be happy for the happiness that someone else can take."
