Lourens van der Zwaag is a jazz trumpet player and graduated from the Bachelor program of the Conservatory of Amsterdam. At the age of 11 he joined his first band, under the leadership of Peter Guidi (also known as the Godfather of the Amsterdam Jazz Scene) he was able to develop into a soloist with his own sound. Since then, he has been able to play at prestigious venues such as the BIMhuis, the Royal Concertgebouw and the North Sea Jazz Festival. This includes special projects like the National Youth Jazz Orchestra but also with his own 12-piece brass band: Valvetronic. He also often plays as a substitute with brass bands such as Jungle by Night and Gallowstreet.
In 2019 Lourens starts writing his own songs for a new project: LOUW. Soon the music turns out to be a mix of Jazz and Hip-hop, with the groove taking the lead. Inspired by what great artists like Ibrahim Maalouf, Anton Goldsmith, Robert Glasper and Louis Cole do with rhythm and groove in their music, Lourens strives for music that makes the audience unconsciously rock, wobble and tap their seats. 'They know how to challenge themselves musically and rhythmically, without making the music more out of reach for a large audience. They can only do that because there is so much soul in their performance. They tell a story that touches people. That's the ultimate goal and that's what I want to achieve with my music.' The music he has been writing recently is centered around the physical developments he has been going through for the past year.
