This quartet represents the current top of young jazz musicians. Band leader is trumpeter Bruno Calvo, originally from Spain, who never left the capital city after his study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He was the first European to win the Carmine Caruso Trumpet Solo Competition in 2017, which is an indicator for his talent. He is doing really well with his quartet and last spring he released his sparkling debute album ‘Outlines’. The quartet features no piano, which is unusal for jazz. The harmonious and virtuoso sound is provided by the brass: Calvo is backed-up by star saxophonist Ben van Gelder. Together with the creative and balance rhythm section by Giuseppe Romagnoli (bass) and Iago Fernández (drums) this band is a cracker.
