Again Berlage Saxophone Quartet will be part of the program of Grachtenfestival Amsterdam this year. We are truly delighted!
In the sheltered garden of the Amnesty-huis, the quartet will perform works of composers who never shed an Expedition - they all left their homeland at some point, sometimes temporarily, sometimes forever. Some were forced, others were looking for new inspiration, or a new working method, or maybe they were in search of their own specific style and identity. Isaac Albéniz used to live in Paris and he worked in London as a conductor, Edvard Grieg studied in Leipzig, Ástor Piazzolla studied in Paris and he lived in New York, like Antonín Dvorák.
The quartet performs beautiful adaptations of well known and lesser known string quartets. The reed players know exactly how to dazzle their audience with innovative timbres and surprising interpretations.
