Franz Schubert's String Quintet is known as one of the most beautiful chamber music works ever written. With the unusual scoring of two violins, viola and two cellos, Schubert takes you into a world of Viennese elegance, lyricism and drama. The string quintet is the last complete work Schubert ever wrote. He died a few weeks after writing down the last notes of the work, in the autumn of 1828. As a result, the masterpiece almost literally feels like a work between heaven and earth. It is the wish of Artist in Residence Alexander Warenberg (cello) to perform this one-hour masterpiece in one of the most beautiful halls in the Netherlands, the Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw.
