Flute sextet 6Sense consists of six young flute players who alternate original compositions with arrangements from different periods of style, played on all instruments from the flute family. Now the piccolo, then the bass flute. The ensemble wrote an ode to the Remise (depot for trams) named Lekstraat. Narrator is actor Porgy Franssen, who works for several theatre companies and is famous for his television- and movie productions. What is less known, is that Porgy happens to be a fan of the Western concert flute, and he plays it too.
The audience is invited to come along on a musical, fictitious journey, bringing to life the stops of tram number 12. The flutists each represent a different type of passenger, all different people with different views on the city of Amsterdam. Which stop will evoke the ‘Scherzo’ by Rachmaninov, which the ‘Vermont Counterpoint’ by Reich and at what tram stop will you hear 'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune’ by Debussy?
The tram depot, which was built in 1930 and is on the list of protected monuments, is still used today by the public transport company GVB, as a garage for both historic and active trams. It is an extraordinary point of departure for a musical-theatrical ride through town.
The flutists of 6Sense & Porgy Franssen won the Grachtenfestival Pitch 2016 in the category 'location'. They created this performance especially for the festival venue Remise Lekstraat.
Please note: it can be cold in the tram depot.
