Sterre van Boxtel & Jana Schell
Promising soprano in Amsterdam North’s oldest monument
Soprano Sterre van Boxtel is considered one of the best-kept secrets of her generation. At the age of just 13, she was admitted to the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she will graduate this year. Van Boxtel is at home in a wide variety of musical styles, which she demonstrates in the Buiksloterkerk with a program focusing on 20th-century composers, while also making excursions into the Romantic repertoire. She has a remarkable ability to touch audiences with the more theatrical music of Kurt Weill, five songs by Francis Poulenc, and works by Richard Strauss.
Van Boxtel has previously appeared on television, performing with Club Classique in programs such as Superkids and Podium Klassiek. She was also involved in a TEDx Talk in Alkmaar. During this concert, she will be accompanied by her trusted musical partner, pianist Jana Schell.
