Stabat Mater

Pergolesi’s masterpiece for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary
In the height of summer audiences will have the rare opportunity to hear a masterpiece that is seldom performed outside the Passion season: Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. On the Feast of the Assumption of Mary this profound work reveals how Pergolesi transformed Mary’s suffering at the foot of the Cross into music of such beauty and intensity that it transcends both time and season.

The program is framed as a musical triptych with works by Arvo Pärt: the contemplative Summa for string quartet and My Heart’s in the Highlands as an uplifting conclusion. Few vocal pairings are as compelling as soprano Noëlle Drost and mezzo-soprano Fee Suzanne de Ruiter. They are joined by the Martin Quartet and organist Jeroen Koopman. Both Fee Suzanne de Ruiter and the Martin Quartet are finalists in this year’s Dutch Classical Talent competition the Netherlands’ leading talent development program for emerging classical musicians.

Do not miss this opportunity to hear these exceptional artists perform together in the magnificent acoustics of the Dominicus Church. This inspiring music promises to transport listeners into a state of spiritual exaltation at the very heart of summer.
