Souvenir de Voyage

Musical stories in a place full of history and timeless beauty

The Portuguese Synagogue — once the largest in the world — provides a stunning and atmospheric setting for a remarkable concert. On the program are two rarely performed masterpieces, each rich in narrative power.

Film composer Bernard Herrmann, known for his iconic collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, wrote Souvenir de Voyage, a clarinet quintet brimming with suspense and cinematic expression. In The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind, Osvaldo Golijov blends Argentine influences, traditional Jewish music, and klezmer into an entirely new musical language.

Clarinetist Annemiek de Bruin leads a powerhouse all-female ensemble of top chamber musicians, who dive into this challenging repertoire with passion and precision.

A unique evening in a venue that must be both seen and heard.
